Sarah Charmchi, Counselor at Serenity Psychotherapy Group in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.”

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the owner/director of Serenity Psychotherapy Group. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Behavioral and Community Health in 2012 from University of Maryland College Park and later attended the Catholic University of America, where I earned my master’s degree with honors in Social Work. I understand that therapy is a vulnerable experience and as a clinician, I place a great value in my client’s ability to trust their therapist as an ally, while actively working together on creating a non-judgmental, safe space for my client to gain insight and grow in the path to self-discovery.

Also, I believe that true transformation occur when mind, body and spirit are in harmony and I place a great value on holistic and client centered approach, while integrating evidence-based psychological techniques with mindfulness. I work alongside you  not only to address the symptoms and challenges you bring to therapy but also delve deeper to uncover the root causes of your distress, empowering you to cultivate lasting change and live a life of genuine peace and fulfillment.

Also, due to living a life full of varied experiences, I am able to easily relate to your unique requests while providing culturally sensitive care for the specific needs present.

During my tenure in the field of social services, I have supported many individuals from diverse backgrounds and practiced in variety of settings including Advocacy Programs, Residential, Non-Profit Agencies, Government Agencies and College settings. These experiences as well as well as the extensive clinical education have provided me with the opportunity to work through the most challenging cases, while applying a comprehensive and culturally appropriate approach. Additionally, as a bilingual therapist, fluent in English and Farsi, I understand the importance of multicultural sensitivity during treatment and I am, therefore, proud to provide psychotherapy services to the Farsi speaking community as well. Overall, my compassion, desire to help others and unique life experiences as well as extensive training has helped me become a therapist, who strives to create a comfortable, safe, and non-judgmental environment to serve as a guide in my client’s  growth journey.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, plan outings and get togethers, watch movies, cook and explore new places and hobbies.
